Obituary, 28 Feb 1901, "The Elyria Republican" (Elyria, Lorain Co., OH)
IN MEMORY OF MRS. DECKER
An Old Elyria Resident-Mother of Twelve Children.
On February 9, 1901, Mrs. Catherine Decker, formerly of this place, died at the house of her daughter in Graytown, O., after a short illness. Her remains were brought to Elyria and laid beside those of her husband in the Murray ridge cemetery.
Mrs. Decker was born in Germany. At the age of 15 years she came with her parents from Germany and settled in Boston, Mass. Two years later she was married to Frederick Decker, who died in Elyria 21 years ago. Shortly after their marriage they started for what to them seemed the far west, and came to Ohio, first settling in Amherst township. After 35 years they gave up the farm life and came to Elyria to live.
Mrs. Decker was the mother of 12 children. She had 42 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was a member of the Evangelical church. As wife and mother she was ever dutiful and loving; as friend and neighbor she was ever ready to lend a helping hand. Truly it can be said of her: "She hath done what she could."
