William "Bill" Frederick Copeland Jr., 85, of Noel, MO., died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 7:30 a.m. at his home after an illness.

Bill Copeland was born on June 15, 1918, in Carthage, MO., to the late William Frederick Copeland Sr. and Martha Estelle (Plummer) Copeland. He has lived in McDonald County for 19 years, coming from Scottsdale, Ariz. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Wasp in the South Pacific and after the war in the North Atlantic and Italy. He was a member of the St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Noel. He worked at a lumber yard in Pea Ridge and later at Hillcrest in Rogers. He then owned Copeland Lumber in Decatur for about 15 years. He then worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Fort Defiance, Tuba City and Galllup, N.M., where he retired.

He married Edna Imogene Estis on March 11, 1939, in Pineville, MO., She survives of the home in Noel. Additional survivors include three daughters, Linda Carol Griffiths and husband M.C. of Webster, N.C., and Phoenix, Ariz., Barbara Ann Copeland of Dallas, Texas, Susan Jane Luna and husband Ronald R. of Kapolei, Hawaii; five grandchildren, Robert Clayton Griffiths of Raleigh Durham, N.C., Mark Copeland Griffiths of Richmond, VA., Kelly Denise Ramaker of Dallas, Michelle Suzanne Lynch of Kapolei, Hawaii, Malinda Andrea Lynch of Mesa, Ariz.; one great grandson, Devon Alexander Lynch; one brother, George E. "Jack" Copeland and wife Betty of Dewey, Okla.; one sister, Helen Udene Torrence of Walnut Grove, MO.

Funeral services for Bill Copeland will be held today, April 27, 2004, at 10:00 at the St Nicholas Episcopal Church in Noel. The Rev. Barbara Beam will officiate. Burial will be in Dudman cemetery in Carthage.
