Mike was born to Daniel Joseph Sullivan and his wife, (later to become my Mom), Dorothy Lucille Hennington Sullivan in Chicago, Ill. Mike's father was a pilot in the service. His plane went down in the Great Lakes when Mike was just six weeks old. His body was never recovered. My Mom, Lucille then married Jack R. Grey (April 1955) who was also a pilot in the Marines.
Jack and Lucille Grey had Mike and later Mike added 2 brothers and a sister; Jeff, Jan and Todd. When I was born, Michael wanted our Mom to call me Stewart. Of course, Mom said we could not because Stewart is a boy's name. Well then, Mike said, "We can call her STEWART THE GIRL". Needless to say, Mike did not win. I did not go through life as Stewart the Girl.
Mike graduated from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas; I believe the year was 1971. Mike always excelled in school; was in the National Who's Who in High School. He was also in the band and could be counted on to learn any needed instrument. One time he played the bassoon. He went on to college at Rice University in Houston, Texas. After college, Mike served in the U.S. Navy for a brief period. He was honorably discharged as this was the time that he was diagnosed with diabetes.
His life was cut short due to diabetes and he passed away while living in Houston.
Mike was never married; did not have any children of his own. He did not live long enough to know that later in life he became an uncle.
Rest in peace dear brother.
You are missed terribly by Mom and the rest of us.
Until we meet again.
Thank you dear Steve Edquist for sponsoring my brother's memorial. May God and the Angels shower you and your loved ones with blessings.
