Born in Albany, New York in 1834, Jacob Irish a 30-year-old farmer; enlisted and mustered into the 19th Independent New York Light Artillery as a Private on September 10, 1864 at Lewiston, New York. At his enlistment, he was listed as 5’5½” tall with hazel eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. Private Irish completed his enlistment and mustered out June 13, 1865 at Elmira, New York. Jacob and his wife Lucy were married on January 12, 1859 and parented three children: Herman, John and Elwood. Jacob returned from the war and lived with his wife and Herman at the home of Abram Talmadge (who served in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery) in Lewiston, New York. In 1880, Jacob a farmer and his wife Lucy and their children Herman, Daniel and Elwood had moved to Wilson, New York. In 1894, Jacob despite suffering with rheumatism attended the 29th reunion of the 19th Independent New York Light Artillery. As a result of his suffering Jacob applied for a invalid pension, number 1,220, 437 on February 28, 1899, from the State of New York. Private Jacob Irish died in 1902 and is buried in Row 10, Stone 7 with his wife Lucy A. Irish (1840-8/1/1897) and Daniel E Irish (1866-1892)
