George was born in Sherman, Texas the son of Eli and Tava (Taylor) Knox. He died at LifeCare Hospital in Plano, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Juna (Eason) Knox; one son, James Garland; one daughter, Bea Kirk; and two grandsons.
He was survived by his wife Lucille of Celina, Texas; seven daughters, Suzann Knox of Gainesville, Texas, Cindy Applin of Bonham, Texas, Linda Nelson of Gunter, Texas, Peggy Cooper of Rising Star, Texas, Pauline McIntyre of Gunter, and Ruby Ussery of Celina; three sons Leroy Garland of Celina, Dale Garland of Tyler, Texas and Marshall Garland of McKinney, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at Flesher Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne, Texas, Buddy Garland officiating.
Pallbearers were Randy Kirk, Bryan Burns, Dan Pyles, George Applin, Clayton McIntyre and James Garland. Honorary pallbearers were D.J. Pyles and Johnnie Segraves.
