Clifford Follmer is a World War I veteran.
Clifford married Olga Baehler in 1921 at Saunemin, Livingston County, Illinois. Olga was my maternal great aunt.
Clifford was a teacher at the Illinois State Reformatory, (Illinois State Prison,) and his wife was a nurse at St. James Hospital.
They lived at 210 E. Henry in Pontiac, Illinois, in a great big house with a huge front porch. He and his wife had one son named John Richard, who was the same age as my Mom. They were good friends and playmates as children.
Clifford Follmer, 69, Dies Here; Rites Thursday
Clifford H. Foilmer, 69, 210 East Henry street, died at 8:15 p.m Monday at St. James hospital after a serious illness of one month.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Raleigh J. Harris funeral home, with the Rev. Eugene Wisely officiating Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Follmer was born Sept 19 1891, near Saunemin, Illinois a son of John and Christina (Schroeder) Follmer.
He was educated in rural schools and Saunemin high school and attended Illinois State Normal University. He was a lifetime resident of Pontiac and Owego township. Mr. Follmer was a teacher at Pontiac prison.
He was married to Olga Baehler at Convoy, Ohio, on Sept. 22, 1921. He served a year in France during World War I as a member of the army. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Blue Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Pontiac Commandery, a past commander and recorder for 22 years, a member of the White Shrine and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, a son John R. Follmer, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers. Lester Follmer Graymont; William Follmer, Forrest, Illinois; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Kipfer Pontiac; Mrs; Florence Schierholtz, Western Springs, Illinois, and three grandchildren.
Two sisters and an infant son preceded him in death.
