Spencer Elwood Elliott, Jr. son of Spencer Elwood and Veda Fern McCue Elliott, was born April 24, 1929 in Phillips County and died April 30, 1999 at the Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center Wichita at the age of 70.

Elwood was a 1947 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. During High School and until 1957 he worked at the Elliott Hardware (store). He served his country in Korea from 1950 through 1951. He joined the U.S. Postal Service Dec. 28, 1957, retiring Jan 31, 1994 as a rural route carrier.

On April 12, 1953, Elwood married Carolyn Jeanette McClain in Hutchinson, Kansas and they had five children. He was a Boy Scout leader when his sons were active in Scouts. Elwood loved his family, friends, Phillipsburg and golf.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn of the home; five children: Robin Lynn Van Allen and husband Dave of Medicine Lodge and their children Eric Van Allen of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Sidni Van Allen of Medicine Lodge; David Scott Elliott and wife Vicky and his sons Scott, John and Daniel of Rowlett, Texas, Cameron Michael Elliott and wife Carolyn and their son, Jordan of Prairie Village; Michaela Suzanne Colson and her daughters, Kylee, Hanna and Megan of Medicine Lodge; and Shannon Elise Seeger and husband Ken and their daughter Aubrey of Coral Springs, Fla.; one sister, Luetta Boeve and husband John of Wakeeney; two brothers-in-law, Dale Vose, Great Bend and Gene McClain and wife Gail of Chicago; and his step-father, Raymond Townley, Phillipsburg.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Monday, May 3 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Ron Lowry officiating. Connie Nelson, soloist, sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "His Eye is on the Sparrow" accompanied by pianist Val Hanson and organist Helen Witmer. Casket bearers were: David, Daniel, John, Scott, Jordan and Cameron Elliott, Eric and Dave Van Allen and Ken Seeger. Arrangements were handled by Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

Remains: Half of ashes were spread by family in July of 2000 at a Rocky Mountain National Park where his grandson's ashes were spread, Joshua Elliott, who preceeded him in death. Remaining half of ashes were placed at his gravesite with headstone in the Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
