KELLOGG - Dennis James "Bones" Fanning, 49, of Kellogg died of cancer Monday, Sept. 8, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation will follow visitation at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. At 7 p.m. there will be a time of sharing memories.
Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County, the Jasper County Animal Rescue League or to Kellogg Ambulance and Fire Department.
The son of James and Norma (Callison) Fanning, he was born Aug. 5, 1954, in Grinnell. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1972 and was a resident of Jasper County all his life. He was a truck driver for Bisom Truck Line for 18 years and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed photography, animals, boating and camping.
He was a member of Buck Creek Muzzle Loaders, South Skunk Blues Society, National Wild Turkey Federation and N.RA.
Survivors include his parents of Kellogg; a brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Laurie Fanning of Kellogg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise and Ken Scheff of Newton and Debby and Chris Green of Higginsville, Mo.; special friend, Meredith Davis of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.
