New Waterford John H. Colella, 59, of 46725 State St., passed away late Friday afternoon at his residence.
John was born March 15, 1949 in Salem, a son of the late Frank Angelo and Cleta Mae Burt Colella, and was a life long resident of New Waterford. A strong supporter of the village of New Waterford, he had at one time been a member of the fire department, and was a graduate of Crestview High School. He had been employed as a salesman with the former Heritage Ford in East Palestine, and more recently with Columbiana Buick-Olds-Cadillac.
He attended St. Jude's Catholic Church, Columbiana, and was a member of American Legion Post 290, Columbiana, and the New Waterford Eagles Aerie 2415. John loved sports, especially watching his nieces and nephews play in area athletics. John was a strong supporter, to say the least, of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and always, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
His family remembers fondly his Friday morning ritual of visiting the Rogers "Mall", and bringing something home.
John is survived by a sister, Candy (James) Hawkins, Columbiana; a brother, David Colella, Beaver Creek OH; four nieces and nephews, Michael Frank Hawkins, Jamalynne Kay Hawkins, Dana Marie Lane, and Daniel Frank Colella; and several great nieces and nephews, Tyler, Abby, Paige, Mariah, Haley, and Mahliah.
The funeral service will be a 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine. Burial will follow in New Waterford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday. The family has asked that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the New Waterford Eagles.
