PAULS VALLEY Joe Franklin Pack was born January 10, 1932, to Clifford H. and Mildred R. Pack in a small cabin house nestled against a wooded stream less than a mile from where he will be laid to rest. Joe recently passed away after complications from a sudden coronary event.
Joe was raised on the farm and attended the landmark Klondike grade school, later graduating from Pauls Valley High School. In 1965, he moved to Ardmore, Okla., where he found his true calling with Southern Oklahoma Ambulance service. Working as a medic became his passion and earned him near legendary status among many, and he was often called "hero" by others. Joe never claimed any credit, saying he could only do what God allowed and helped him to do. As a result of this occupation, he spent 33 years with the service, serving as an EMT, an instructor, a supervisor, a leader and a friend. From the CEO's to the janitorial, Joe served them all with compassion and respect. Throughout all his work, Joe left upon others his touch of the gifts God had bestowed upon him.
Joe loved gardening. His time was spent nurturing his tomato plants, onions and his okra, and as they produced, he would share with anyone who would take them.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; one sister; and one brother.
He is survived by two sons, Ricklin Joe Pack and his wife, Susan, and Gregory O'Brian Pack and his wife, Laura; three grandsons, Dr. Jason Pack and his wife, Andrea, Dr. Wesley Pack and Caleb Pack; two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Taylor; two brothers, Jerry H. Pack and family and Jack W. Pack and family; his uncle, Earl F. Cole; and many cousins and a myriad of friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Beaty Baptist Church with Elder Jack Pack officiating. Interment will be in Klondike Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
