Luis Almodova entered into rest in San Antonio, TX at the age of 66. At the time of his death he was a resident of San Antoino; however, he was born in San Simon, AZ and grew up in Bowie, AZ.
After graduating from Bowie Junior High and Bowie High School, he attended and earned his Associate of Arts degree at (then) Eastern Arizona Junior College (now) Eastern Arizona College where he was a member of the track team.
Luis was the seventh of nine children born to Francisco and Natividad (Garcia). He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers, Raymond, Marcial, and Henry and sister, Mary Jo Beall.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Sylvia Lee and son-in-law, Ernest Castellano of San Antonio. Additionally, he is survived by brother, Francisco, Jr and spouse, Marta of Tucson, brother, Julian and Spouse, Marion, of California City, Ca. sister, Bertha of Bowie and Martha Westberry of Silver City, NM. Luis leaves behind two grandchildren, Jacob Ryan and Alexa Jayden who were the love of his life. Luis also leaves behind his former wife, Sun Tae (Yi) who now resides in Woodbridge, VA.
Following graduation from Eastern Arizona College, Luis worked on the Southern Pacific Railroad alongside his father. He continued his studies at Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff and at the height of the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the Army and was trained and branched Infantry. Luis saw service in Germany and served three tours there during the Cold War. He served in Vietnam during the 1968 and 1969 TET Offensives where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. After Vietnam he was posted to South Korea where he was retrained and assigned to the Adjutant General Corps.
His stateside duty included service at Oakland Army Base, Oakland, CA., Fort Ord, CA (two tours), and Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), the Army Commendation Medal (3 awards), The Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), the Army Good Conduct Medal with three bronze loops, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 silver star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Korean Defense Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class, the Army Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 3, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, The Major General Alexander Macomb Award.
