Walter Foster, 84, died Sunday at his home in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:oo PM on Friday, December 17, at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home, 5750 HWY 277 South from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday for visitation.
Mr. Foster was born on May 5, 1920 in Amarillo, the son of Walter M. and Effie Everett Foster. He graduated from Wink High School and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He moved to Abilene in 1961 working as an electrician in civil service at Dyess Air Force Base. He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoyed pecan shows; and loved being involved with his grandchildren.
Survivors include seven daughters - Sharon Bouchillon of Pensacola, Florida; Dixie Sweeney of Dallas; Allie Fonville of Houston; Leslie Wilkes of Holden, Louisiana; Judy Denney of Austin; Ginger Williams of Madison, Wisconsin; and Amy Johnson of Fisher, Louisiana. Two sons - Robert of Phoenix, Arizona; and Paul of Throckmorton; 28 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lonnie Sims Foster.
