Anthony "Tony" Leland Talaga, Jr.
age 81 of Belleville, Michigan passed away at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, surrounded by his family. Born in Westland, Michigan on July 18, 1930, son of the late Anthony L. and Ella (Cortds) Talaga, Sr.
Tony proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a proud and faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Belleville and was honored to have received the St. George award. He was also a member of the Detroit Choir Boys. Tony received the Boy Scouts "Silver Eagle Award." He served on the Belleville City Council and was on the Belleville Fire Department for 36 1/2 years, 18 years as Chief. He then stepped down to serve as Director of the DPW. Tony loved spending time with his wife traveling in their motor home to Florida and northern Michigan. He loved his family, his community, and enjoyed his life to the fullest.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Mary J. (Hnot) Talaga of nearly 54 years. Also, 4 children; Anthony "Tony" G. (Cynthia) Talaga, Richard J. Talaga, both of Belleville, MI, Donald L. (Karin) Talaga of Wayne and Elizabeth "Liz" A. (Jamie) Paton of Belleville, MI, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also one brother John Talaga of Detroit and a son-in-law, Linton Smith of Milan, MI. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie Talaga in 2002.
Visitation will be at David C. Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, 1-8 PM and Friday, 1-8 PM with a 7PM Prayer service. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 409 W. Columbia Ave, Belleville, MI with a 11 AM Funeral Mass with Father Thomas H. Cusick serving as Celebrant. Interment will be in Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI. Memorial Contributions to the wishes of the family would be appreciated.
