Virla Jean Voigt (Polly)
passed away on January 9, 2013 at home in Ypsilanti with her loving family by her side. Virla was born January 23, 1929 in Wyandotte, MI the daughter of Francis and Lillian (Fleck) Spooner. Polly married John Voigt on February 14, 1947, (he preceded her in death June 21, 1966). Polly worked full time as a home maker and mother to 9 children. During hard times, she kept strong in her Episcopalian faith. She was an avid reader, loved to embroider, a fan of Paula Dean's cookbooks and TV show along with the Food Network and CBS soap operas. She loved to can fresh vegetables, cook meals for her family, going out for Chinese dinner, and to feed wild birds and squirrels. Polly never met a stranger. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a spitfire personality. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Preceding her in death was her oldest son Claude "Chief" Voigt, her brothers: Henry and Frank Spooner, sisters: Barbara Nedimeyer, Mary Alice Pitman (Spooner), Beulah "Pudgie" Coleman (Spooner), great grandson Nicholis Voigt, and son-in law Roy Benzinger. She is survived by her children: Lillian Williams (Sam), Mary Benzinger, John Voigt, Walter Voigt, Lori Walker (Joe), Ella Voigt, Virla Voigt, daughter-in-law Mickey Voigt. Granchildren: Christine Segal (Mike), David Voigt (Danielle), Wanda Benzinger (Wakili), Frank Voigt, William Voigt, Claude Voigt, Eugene Benzinger, Catherine Walker, Chrystallynn McCullough, Jessika McCullough. Great Grandchildren: Marcus Goodine, Wakilia Leath, Destiny Leath, Aaliyah Leath, Blake Voigt, Michael Segal, Johnathon Walker, Sophia Walker an and a host of many cousins, nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held Sunday, January 13th, from 2p.m Janowiak Funeral Home in Ypsilanti with Celebration of Life Services to follow on Monday, January 14th from 11a.m 1p.m for family, at 1p.m. Pastor Keith Worrell will be officiating service for family and visitors. She will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI following the service.
