Tye Patrick Brown, 31, Lenexa, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, while on duty as an emergency medical technician in Edwardsville. He was born Sept. 26, 1972, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. He had lived in Shawnee before moving to Lenexa about two weeks ago. He attended Oak Grove Elementary School, where he was a Cub Scout. He was a 1990 graduate of Turner High School. He landed his first job at Worlds of Fun. After he graduated from high school he attended Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he received his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate. He had worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust (M.A.S.T.) since October 1999.
He was Kansas State Certified, Missouri State Licensed, he was nationally registered as an EMT, Basic Trauma Life Support Certified, and Basic Cardiac Life Support Certified. He was also Child Protection System Technician as well as Training Officer I.
He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1999 and was promoted to sergeant this year. While in the National Guard, he served as a combat medic and did active duty in Germany, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. He was the Medical NCO in Headquarters Co. 2nd Battalion 137th Infantry, based in Kansas City, Kan.
He enjoyed fishing, bicycling, boating, and riding horses and motorcycles with his brother and children.
Surviving are a daughter, a son, his mother and stepfather Bobbie and Kenneth Rife, his father and stepmother Mark and Lona Brown, two brothers and a sister-in-law, two sisters, paternal grandmother Virginia Elder, grandparents Hugh and Carol Brown, and Kenneth and Mary Frances Rife, and a niece.
