Donald G. Bozarth, 60, of 1217 Monroe Drive, a lifelong resident of Newton, died of heart failure Friday evening, April 7, at Skiff Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Emerson Hough chapter of the Izaak Walton League of Newton or the American Heart Association will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Barbara; a son, Mike Bozarth of Newton; and two grandchildren, Brett Bozarth and Joshua Bozarth, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel Mary Brunner Vriezelaar, his step-father James Vriezelaar, and a sister, Doralea Bozarth.
Mr. Bozarth was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newton Masonic Lodge 51 AF and AM, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine (Greeter Unit), Des Moines Consistory, Newton Elks Lodge 1270, Newton Moose Lodge 923, Izaak Walton League, Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars 1655 and the American Legion Post 111.
Mr. Bozarth, who served with the Army occupation force in Japan during World War II, had been a tool and die maker at the Maytag Co. until retiring in June, 1988. He was born July 30, 1928 in Newton and was a 1946 graduate of Newton Community High School. He was married to Barbara Blacker Aug. 12, 1950 in Newton.
