Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 223 E. 4th St. N. in Newton.
Visitation: The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the church with a coffee time.
Interment: A Private Family burial will be held at a later date at , at Roland Cemetery in Roland, Iowa
Those left to honor John's memory are his wife, Lila of Newton; a son, Gary (Laura) Britson of Des Moines, Iowa; and a son-in-law, John E. Billingsley of Newton.
John served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in the Pacific. John was a graduate of Roland High School in 1936 and from the University of Iowa in 1946. John was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for 50+ years; He was an active amateur radio operator for 50+ years and was a member of the Newton Amateur Radio Association; He served on the Newton Library Board of Trustees, was a member of R.S.V.P. and a Lifetime member of the Maytag Management Club. He was a feature writer for the Newton Daily News and one of the columns he was known for was "Senior Focus." John had also received many civic awards including a "Friend of Education Award" from the Newton Community Education Association and a "Lifetime Service Award" from the City of Newton.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in John's name to the Hospice of Jasper County. Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home or at the church on the morning of the service.
