MARSHALLTOWN - Larry J, Boten, 70, of Marshalltown formerly of Newton, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown with the Rev. Angela Doty, chaplain of the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery near Nevada.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Memorials will be accepted in his name.
The son of Myron and Ruth (Anderson) Boten, he was born Jan. 5, 1935, in Nevada. He. graduated from Roland Senior High School in 1952 and attended the University of Iowa for one year. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 30 years. He was a sales manager for Stone Container Company and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland, American Legion Post No. 111 in Newton, Elks B.P.O.E. and Masonic Grand Lodge No. 444. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed fishing. On June 1, 1975, he married Gayle Bulot in New Orleans, La.
Survivors include three, sons, Larry J. (Debbie) Boten Jr. of New Orleans, La., Dale (Sharon) Boten and Brent (Susan) Boten, all of New Orleans, La,; six grandchildren; a sister, Mary (David) Wedt of Newton; a brother, John (Judy) Boten of Moline, Ill.; and his former wife, Gayle Boten of New Orleans, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece and a nephew.
