PFC James Hopper Jr, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Shelby, North Carolina.

Private First Class James Hopper Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Hopper served our country until June 10th, 1969 in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. James died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. James was born on June 2nd, 1950 in Shelby, North Carolina. PFC Hopper is on panel 22W, line 013 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." James Hopper was a member of a great rifle company, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 20th Infantry, 11th Light Infantry Brigade. The men of Alpha Company, his friends, will hold James memory in The Wall of our hearts for all our lives. Alpha Company, 1st Bn 20th Inf.

James is the son of James & Katie Reed Hopper Sr. of Shelby NC

He served with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 11th Infantry Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
