SSG James Harold Brittain, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Shelby, NC.

Staff Sergeant James Harold Brittain was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SSG Brittain served our country until March 31st, 1967 in Kontum, South Vietnam. He was 25 years old and was married. It was reported that James died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. SSG Brittain is on panel 17E, line 078 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 6 years.

"He never showed fear". These are the words used by Robert Peterson of C Company, 1/14th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division in his book, "Rites of Passage" describing SSG Brittain with whom he served. Many of SSG Brittain's exploits are described in this book. May his legacy of bravery, heroism, and self-sacrifice always be remembered! Arnold M. Huskins, rebeleye@aol.com.

He is the Son of Mr Limie Brittain and Mrs Sallie Ramsey Brittain, of Cleveland County.

He served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, "Golden Dragons", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal for Bravery, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
