David Sherrell Willimas was born on June 29, 1835 in Alabama. His death certificate shows his father's name as Ervin Williams. No other information is known about his parents or siblings.
He married Winnie Jane Strickland December 22, 1858 in Macon Co., AL.
He served in the CSA Company G 45th Alabama Infantry, which participated in several battles including Perryville, KY. in 1862, Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge in 1863. He was wounded in battle July 22, 1864 and spent several days in the Ocmulgee Hospital in Macon, GA. He signed his parole May 13, 1865 at Headquarters of 16th Army Corps at Montgomery,AL.
They had five children in Macon Co., AL. About 1873 they moved to Colorado Co.,TX where two more children were born.
They later moved to Harris Co. where he continued farming until his health declined.
They moved to 517 Patterson in Houston and he joined the Dick Dowling Camp, United Confederate Veterans on November 5, 1916. He received a Pension from the State of Texas for his service in the CSA.
He died at his home September 17, 1921 at the age of 86. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, daughter and two sons.
A Confederate Headstone was Dedicated in his Memory on Saturday, October 8, 2005, Washington Cemetary. Sponsored by Washington Cemetary Historic Trust and Albert Sidney Johnson Camp 67 Sons of Confederate Veterans.
