ADAMS, LOUISA ELIZABETH JORDAN: died last Saturday morning, March 7, 1930, after a brief illness. She was affectionately known to hundreds of friends as Grandma Adams. Laclede County's eldest citizen, died in her home, fifteen miles southwest of Lebanon, near Orla, on the farm where she had lived for over sixty years. Grandma Adams was 94 years old on January 20. She had been blind for two years, and was crippled from a fall sustained last June, which gave her a broken hip. Despite her afflictions, she was cheerful and happy in the love of her children and grand children, who gave her care, willing service and unlimited affection. She was born in Xenia, Illinois, January 20, 1836, was married in Illinois to Reuben Minifer Adams and came to Laclede County with her husband in 1869. They bought the farm near Orla, where both lived until the end of their lives. Mr. Adams died on January 5, 1900. Grandma Adams is survived by two sons, J. O. Adams, of Lockwood, and Arthur Adams and two daughters, Mrs. Julia Jones and Mrs. Ida Chastain. Her descendants numbered 116. Of them ninety-six survive her. She was the mother of eight children. Funeral services were held in McBride church last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Charles Wood, assisted by Rev. Mr. Ussery. Interment was in McBride cemetery., beside the body of her husband in the family lot.
