Eureka, IL - Alyssa Grace Burns, 17, of Eureka, Ill., passed away at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, as a result of an auto accident.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1991, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter of the Rev. Joseph G. and Terri Burns.

Surviving are her parents of Eureka; three sisters, Cara (Chase) Edmond of Austin, Texas, Keeley (Adam) Sullivan of Denver, Colo., and Angela Burns at home; one brother, Darin Burns at home; one nephew, Cormac Edmond of Austin, Texas; maternal grandfather, Richard McKern of Marion, Iowa; five aunts, Sister Michael Marie Burns of the OSF in Chicago, Ruthann Notz of Clinton, Iowa, Donna (Joseph) Neilson of Boothwyn, Pa., Kathryn Burns of Glenwood, Iowa, and Mary (George) Ivory of Casper, Wyo.; five uncles, Michael (Kim) McKern of Marion, Iowa, Mick (Monica) Burns of Omaha, Neb., Deacon Thomas (Mary Ann) Burns of Springfield, Ill., Robert (Susie) Burns of Fairfax, Iowa, and Dr. Timothy (Ev) Burns of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; several cousins; her special friend, Joshua Law of Secor; and many more friends.

Alyssa is joining in eternal life her paternal grandparents, Patrick and Grace Burns; paternal grandfather, Ray Leonard; maternal grandmother, Barbara McKern; and uncle, Karl Notz.

She worked at the Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria.

Alyssa was very active at Eureka High School in the National Honor Society, volleyball, softball, basketball and with the marching and concert bands.

There will be a private family graveside service in Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is assisting the family with arrangements.
