Sarah Gray Hunt came to Texas with her daughter Maggie from Mississippi after her husband William J. Hunt's death in the Civil War. On January 29, 1873, she purchased 210 acres of land known as the HRB ranch. She raised cotton, corn and cattle and contributed immensely to the development of agriculture and ranching operations in the county. After her death Maggie and her husband, Robert Hutchinson Roddy acquired the ranch.
The HRB Ranch is located seventeen miles southeast of Hallettsville on FM 530 and is still owned by members of Sarah's family.
