They had five children named in censuses: Martha S. (b. abt. 1846), Margaret E.(b. abt. 1850), Charles F. (b. Feb 22, 1852), Alexander Wright Smith (b. Apr. 17, 1862 or 1864) and Mary (b. abt. 1864)
Obituary found in Jan. 9, 1902 "Greenville Sun" newspaper:
"Died, on Tuesday, December 31st, 1901, at 1 o'clock p.m., near Bounds post office, Wayne County, Mo., Mrs. Catharine Smith, wife of Alexander Smith, after an illness of several weeks. She was 79 years old. She had been married 57 years, being married in 1844, in Macon County, Tennessee, by William Bransford. Her maiden name was Wright, daughter of Hubbard and Mary Wright. They emigrated to Wayne County in 1847, and settled on the farm where she died. She had lived continuously on the same farm 54 years. She leaves a husband, two sons, one daughter, nine grand-children, thirteen great grand-children and many friends to mourn her loss. She joined the Missionary Baptist Church 65 years ago and lived in same until 12 years ago when she joined the General Baptist Church at Mount Pisga (sic), and has lived a devoted Christian. Her life has been above the reproach of a ritical evil word. Truly she is not more guiltless in death than she was in life. A host of friends extend heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved husband and children. Though they are sorely afflicted, yet they have learned to bow to the will of our Father who doeth all things well. Thy will be done. She was enterred in Mount Pisgah cemetery January 1st, 1902. Funeral services by Bro. Jacob Bird. She lived a life of righteousness, Has now crossed the river, She has shook hands with other friends, To live with them forever. God has promised glorious things To all who do his will And if we are faithful as she was His promis He'll fulfill. Let us grieve for her no more, For she's at home afar, But let us fight the battle through, That we may meet her there. The battle now is all over, The victory now is won. She will walk the gold paved streets, Her day has just begun. W.P.W."
