Graveside services for Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Skinner, Jr., CLU, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Mike Smith will officiate directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, Caroline Boles Terry Chimes Fund, c/o 242 Woodham Road, Bishopville, SC 29010 or St. Luke United Methodist Church Youth Ministry, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Skinner died Sunday, September 16, 2012. Born on July 13, 1928 in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Emma Moody Skinner. He was a 1945 graduate of Bishopville High School, a 1972 graduate of the American College of Bryn Mawr, PA and completed many graduate courses in financial sciences. During his 52 year insurance career, he received many awards for excellence in sales and service. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy Mitchum Skinner of Hartsville, SC; He is also survived by daughters from his first marriage, Suzanne (John) Beasley of Hartsville, SC, Debby (Richard) Galloway of Hartsville, SC, Rebecca Skinner-Fulmer of Hartsville, SC, Millicent (Frasier) Munn of Columbia, SC; grandchildren and spouse, Richie (Sherry) Galloway, Melanie (Mark) Watkins, Van Galloway, Glenn Fulmer, III, Benjamin Skinner, III; 5 great grandchildren; stepchildren and spouse, Linda (Brian) Stewart, Christine Childers, Keith Ashe, Jr.; step grandchildren, Jessica Stewart, Austin Stewart, Jacob Childers, Dakota Childers, Scott Keith Ashe, Precilla Grady, John Eric Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, Frankie (Faye) Skinner of Neeses, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Perry) Fairchild of Belton, TX; brother-in-law, Heyward Andrews of Hartsville, SC; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Caroline Boles Terry; sisters, Kathryn Andrews, Amaryllis (Ernest) Helms; brothers, Henry Skinner, William J. W. Skinner.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of McCoy Nursing Center.
