An Old Settler Dead
Mrs. Margaret Epler, an aged and respected resident of this city, died at her home in South Macon Wednesday evening, November 24, 1897, aged 86 years and 8 months
Mrs. Epler was born in Westmoreland County, Pa., March 23, 1812, and in 1814 her parents moved to Marion, Ohio, where she grew up into womanhood and was married to David Epler at Marion, Ohio. Thus was a happy married life of over 61 years begun. Mr. Epler died in Mary 1889 and during the eight intervening years the wife has been patiently waiting for her summons to her eternal rest. Mr. and Mrs. Epler moved to Missouri in April, 1867, and settled in Macon, where they lived until the death summons came.
Mrs. Epler was a kind, loving, Christian woman, a true wife and a fond mother. She was beloved by all who knew her. She will be missed in the home and in the neighborhood for her kindness, patience and true Christian spirit had won her the respect of all. From her early childhood she had been an earnest Christian and devoted Presbyterian. On moving to Missouri she joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Macon, where she remained an earnest worker and, as far as her health would permit, a constant attendant upon the church services.
She leaves a large family to mourn for her besides the many friends of her long and useful life. She was the mother of 12 children, 6 of whom are now living; she also leaves 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held today at the home of the deceased at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Oakwood.
