William Joseph Phillips was the son of William H and Margery Phillips. He married Dollie Goodson on 9 May 1894. Their only child was Charles Alexander Phillips, Sr. who was born in 1896, 3 years before his father died of typhoid fever. Dollie later married Simon Wilhite in 1901 after William's death.

Will Phillips Dies After Long Illness of Typhoid Fever
After a long illness with typhoid fever, Will Phillips, a tenant farmer living on the Heston place, south of the city, died yesterday afternoon. He was about 30 years of age and leaves a wife beside a host of friends to mourn his demise. He was hard working and industrious and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral was held at the late residence this afternoon and the interment followed in the Genung cemetery, near Ft. Branch."
