Margery Chance Phillips was the daughter of Samuel Chance and Nancy Ann Wilson of Coshocton Co, OH. Her family moved to Spencer county, IN in the late 1840's and later relocated to Pike County near Stendal. She and WH Phillips were married in Pike county on 21 Oct 1866. They had 10 children.
Obituary from the Princeton Clarion on December 13, 1917:
“The death of Mrs. Margery Phillips, widow of the late William Henry Phillips, occurred at 7 o’clock Wednesday evening at her home, 715 Stormont Avenue, following a lingering illness of a duration of five months. Death was due to complication of diseases.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 o’clock Friday morning at the late residence, conducted by the Rev. C. N. Wilson, pastor of the Gibson Street church. The body will be laid to rest in the Walnut Hill cemetery at Ft. Branch.
The deceased was 73 years of age and surviving are the two daughters, Miss Lillie Phillips, residing at home, Mrs. Sarah Stewart, residing in the vicinity of King Station, and two sons, Samuel M. Phillips of Vincennes, and Henry Phillips of the vicinity of the Pigeon school house. She is also survived by one brother, J.B. Chance, of west Broadway, this city.
She was a member of the General Baptist church. Mrs. Phillips was well and favorably known and held in the highest esteem by her many friends. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of all friends in the loss of this kind and loving mother and sister.”
