OBITUARY: 1 August 1907 - LaGrange Weekly Indicator, LaGrange, Missouri
Cora H. Snapp was born near Louisville, Kentucky, February 19, 1855 and died in LaGrange, MO, July 24, 1907, after a long illness of organic heart trouble. In February 1871, she came with her mother, the late Mary F. Wise, and sister to LaGrange and resided here continuously until her death. In 1873 she united with the First Baptist Church of LaGrange during the pastorate of Rev. John P. Greene, now President of William Jewell College. In 1875 she graduated from LaGrange College and in June 1878 was united in marriage with Dr. William Ellery. To this union three children were born, Mrs. W. C. O'Neil of Waverly, MO, Dr. William L. Ellery of this city, the other died in infancy; a sister, Mrs. George T. Williams of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, also survives.
Deceased had been afflicted with her fatal malady for many years. In December last she went to Texas and made decided improvement in health until stricken with la grippe that had become epidemic in that climate; her heart trouble returned in more aggravated form than ever before; she was compelled to return home and arrived here March 3rd last; her condition was then so serious that she was taken to the home of her son on North Main Street and there lingered until the spirit took its flight as above stated. All that medical skill, kind nursing, the love ministratrions of husband, daughter, son and sister could do were powerless except to prolong life, relieve suffering and comfort the dying wife, mother and sister. Soon after her fatal attack she realized the inevitable result and often expressed that she had no fears of death; that her trust in Him who ever watches over the destinies of the faithful was implicit and abiding. Her suffering was intense, but she murmured not; her illness was protracted, but she complained not; the same Christian fortitude that characterized her life while in health, supported and comforted her in long suffering and in death. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, July 25th by the pastor, Dr. C. E. Taylor, after which the remains were interred in the city cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
