Miss Chaussee Dies Suddenly Here Tuesday
Suffers Stroke While at Work; Funeral Services to be Held Friday at Baptist Church
Laura Chaussee, 52, died suddenly Tuesday morning shortly after reporting to work at the G. Meisenholder department store. She left home that morning seemingly feeling very well, but suffered a stroke caused by a cerebral hemorrhage which proved fatal. Funeral services will be conducted in the First Baptist church here Friday afternoon by Rev. Raymond Nielsen, pastor. The Elmore Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Laura Elizabeth Chaussee was born in Fairview township, Clay county, November 22, 1891, the daughter of the late Oliver W. Chaussee and Mrs. Celia (Washburn) Chaussee. She attended school there and moved with her parents to Vermillion 30 years ago.
Miss Chaussee worked as a clerk in the McVicker store and for the Hirschfield firm and for the last 15 years has been employed by the Meisenholder company.
She was a member of Juno chapter, No. 44, Order of Eastern Star and of Mixpah chapter, White Shrine of Jerusalem at Sioux City. She was affiliated with the First Baptist church.
Miss Chaussee's hobby was the creation of handiwork articles for her family and friends and at the time of her death she had already begun to make gifts for the coming Christmas.
er father died in 1929. She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Walz and Mrs. Myrtle Fowler of Vermillion; four nieces, including Mrs. Helen F. Rawlings, Sioux City, Mrs. Vivian Anderson, Mrs. Dorothy Graham and Mrs. Glen Farmer; two nephews, Staff Sgt. Robert Walz of Great Falls, Mont., and Richard, seaman third-class, out of San Francisco, and three grandnieces and five grandnephews.
