Glen Adele Walz Farmer, 92, of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Azalea Trace Nursing Home. She was the wife of Lt. Col. (Ret) John G. Farmer, retired Army officer and former real estate salesman. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn and Linda; four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were held Friday, August 11, 2006 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus.

Mrs. Farmer was born in Union County, South Dakota, daughter of Henry and Lulu (Chaussee) Walz. She grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota, where she attended public schools and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BS degree in Education and minors in Speech and Dramatic Art and Business Education. She was employed by the University of South Dakota and the City of Vermillion as assistant to the City Auditor during this time as well. In college, she was a member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, a member of Mortar Board, Guidon (a sophomore honorary) and Playcrafters Honorary Dramatic Club. She held offices in her class. She was elected as a candidate from her class for Honorary Colonel in Guidon. Upon graduation, she became deputy city auditor at Vermillion. She married John G. Farmer IV in 1938 and made her home in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, Washington, Yokohama, Japan and the cities of Kaiserslauten, Darmstadt, Mannheim and Karlsruhe, Germany. Professionally, Mrs. Farmer was a secretary and teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a former member of Town and County Garden Club. She did volunteer work with the American Cancer Society, Medical Center and Red Cross. In Missouri, Mrs. Farmer was an assistant Girl Scout leader and board member and helped to organize the local troops with their first summer camp. Her hobbies included china painting, sewing and embroidery, reading, bridge clubs, gardening and traveling. She belonged to Eastern Star and BL Chapter of PEO in South Dakota, HR Chapter of Rolla, Missouri and AI Chapter in Columbus.
