Julia Ellen Ashcraft, 69, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Carrollton, Ky., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at her residence.

She was born March 28, 1935, in Trimble County, Ky., the daughter of James McDowell and Emma Florence May McDowell - Powell. She owned and operated Julie's Eat Shop in Carrollton for a number of years before her retirement. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Sheila Stanhope, Pamela Moshier, and Emma Ashcraft, all of Lexington, Ky., and Julena Herron of Sylvester, Ga.; two sons, James Ashcraft of Lexington, Ky., and Paul B. Ashcraft Jr. of Sylvester, Ga; one sister, Corine McDowell Welch of Carrollton; one brother, Richard McDowell of Nicholasville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Paul B. Ashcraft Sr..

Services will be at 10 a.m. EDT Saturday at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway in Lexington, Ky., with burial at 2 p.m. EDT in English Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m and 6 to 9 p.m. EDT Friday at the funeral home.

She was the retired owner and operator of Julie's Eat Shop in Carrollton, born in Trimble County, Kentucky daughter of the late Jim and Emma Florence Powell May McDowell and she was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons, Sheila (Ray) Stanhope, Lexington, Julena [Carson] Herron, Sylvester, GA, Pamela (Ronnie) Moshier, Lexington, James (Grace) Ashcraft, Lexington, Paul B (Corina) Ashcraft, Jr., Sylvester, GA, and Emma Ashcraft, Lexington, one sister, Corine Webb, Carrollton, one brother, Richard McDowell, Nicholasville, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 am Sat. at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway conducted by Rev. Leonard Plowman, Rev. Eddie Puckett and Rev. William McGraw with burial 2 pm Sat. in the English Cemetery, Carroll County, Kentucky.

Casketbearers will be Keith Miller, Glenn Toomey, Samuel Gillum, Ronnie Moshier III, Junie Welch and James Ashcraft, Jr. Friends may call 1-4 and 6-9 pm Fri. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40504.
