Ray Williams was born Dec. 26, 1912 (delayed birth certificate says 1915) in Donora, Pennsylvania of Christian parents. His Father was from Yorkshire, England and his Mother from Derry, Ireland. He had two sisters and one brother who preceded him in death. He was always interested in airplanes and learned to fly in Cleveland, Ohio. He came to California in 1940 to study aeronautics. He and Eloise met at the Glendale Presbyterian Church that year in the College Christian Endeavor Society. In 1941 he was employed by Pan American as a mechanic on Treasure Island near San Francisco. He became a flight engineer and during World War II was a Naval Reserve officer--Ensign and then a LT JG. He worked for other airlines in Burbank, Alaska, and Miami, Florida until retiring in 1968. In this way he traveled all over the world.
Married in 1942 at the Glendale Presbyterian Church, he had four daughters, three sons, four sons-in-laws, and six grandchildren. He daily remembered each family member by name in prayer as well as many missionaries throughout the world. He was presently a board member of the India National Inland Mission of which Paul Pillai is the founder. Pastor Clark read notes and pieces of poetry from Ray's Bible. "I'm living day by day with Jesus, so I can see my Master someday." Ray wrote many poems. Pastor Clark read "My Heart's Desire."
