FEBRUARY 25, 1927 GEORGE THOMAS BROWN
Brunswick News, 21st inst. George Thomas Brown, well know and popular Brunswick Citizen, passed away at the city hospital shortly after 7 o’clock this morning, following an illness of a only a few days. Less than a week ago Mr Brown was confined to his home with a severe cold, which soon developed into pneumonia. He was at once removed to the hospital, and since that time had been lingering between life and death.
Mr Brown fought against odds to overcome his serious illness, and although everything known to medical science was done, it was to no avail. Attending physicians announced Saturday that there was practically no hope for him. George Brown was popular among a large circle of friends. He was affable, kind hearted, always ready and willing to aid a friend. For years he had been a popular member of the force at Andrews’ Drug Store, where he came in contact with many people daily, and it was his smile that made him so popular.
Mr Brown was born in Newnan Ga, and would have celebrated his forty-sixth anniversary next Friday. He resided in Newnan during all of his boyhood. During the Spanish - American War he enlisted in the Third Georgia Regiment and served throughout that conflict. It was while on the border that he suffered a serious illness, from which he never fully recovered. Mr Brown had been a resident of Brunswick for ten years, and for practically all of this time he had been connected with Andrews’ Drug Store.
The deceased is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs Ella Brown of Newnan; one brother R A Brown, and four sisters, Mrs A W Arnold, Mrs B P Smith, Mrs G P Hopson all of Newnan and Mrs T G Farmer Jr of Fort Lauderdale FL.
Funeral services will be held at the residence, 1200 Union Street, at 4:30 o’clock this afternoon, Rev T W Simpson, of the Presbyterian church officiating. The remains will be forwarded to Newnan tonight for interment tomorrow. The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers, and they are requested to meet at the residence at 8:30 o’clock tonight: Paul Morton, J E Lambright, F M Scarlett, Marshall Byers, D J Gorenflo, Vassa Cate, L J Leavy Jr, J L Andrews.
