In July 1866 he was appointed as a 1st Lieutenant in the 9th United States Regular Cavalry. Brevetted Captain, US Regular Army on March 2, 1867 for "gallant and meritorious services during the war", he was promoted to full Captain, US Regular Army in July 1869. He died at Fort Quitman, Texas in October 1870.
