Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Private in Company H, 6th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry on October 7, 1861. He served in that capacity until September 26, 1864, when he was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant of Company K on September 26, 1864. On March 23, 1865 he was transferred to Company C, and promoted to Captain and commander of the unit. He led his men through the end of the war, and was transferred to the 2nd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry on June 17, 1865. He was finally honorably mustered out on August 7, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
In July 1866 he was appointed as a 1st Lieutenant in the 9th United States Regular Cavalry. Brevetted Captain, US Regular Army on March 2, 1867 for "gallant and meritorious services during the war", he was promoted to full Captain, US Regular Army in July 1869. He died at Fort Quitman, Texas in October 1870.
