FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Ray A. Barner, 85, died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Keystone, Ind., to Willard and Nellie (Speece) Barner.
He married Marjorie Smith in 1952.
He attended Kansas School of the Deaf in 1926, and the Indianapolis School of the Deaf in 1940.
He worked for Perfection Biscuit Company for 43 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church, was a past treasurer of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, United Methodist Congress for the Deaf, and served as co-editor of the "Silent Link" newsletter from 1973 to 1998. He enjoyed traveling and card games.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Christine Krock, LaOtto; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter; a sister, Lois Sandis, Arizona; and two Stepsisters, Dortha Yost, Fort Wayne, and Donna Furlon, Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lee Barner.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 N. Wells St., Fort Wayne. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery.
