James L. (Jim) Chanley Sr., 76, Corydon, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at his "Camp Bubby" in old Leavenworth.
Born Aug. 5, 1936, near Leavenworth, he was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Pansy Opal Thornton Chanley.
He was a retired police officer with the Louisville Metropolitan Police Dept. and Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept., a former motorcycle police officer with the Los Angeles Police Dept., a member of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Officers Association, National Fraternal Order of Police River City Lodge No. 164 and Leavenworth Presbyterian Church and an Army veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse, Jack and Charles Chanley, and a sister, Goldie Mitchell.
Survivors include five children, James L. (Jim) Chanley Jr. and Valarie T. Mullins, both of Louisville, Bonita J. Tong of Prospect, Ky., Elizabeth A. Page of New Albany and Candy Sue Neblett of Florida; three brothers, Donnie, Bob and Bill Chanley; two sisters, Alice Pelleman and Brenda Summers; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Saturday, June 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 23, after noon at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Leavenworth Memorial Gardens.
Officiant: The Rev. Randy Coleman.
Pallbearers: Nick, Ryan and Mike Tong, Alex Chanley, Lance Mix and Luke Mullins.
