Vencil (Butch) DeLong, 68, of rural Fort Madison, died at 12:30 p.m., Monday, June 4, in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Death was unexpected.
Mr. DeLong was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Marceline, Mo. He had been a resident of Fort Madison for 60 years and was a retired Du Pont production worker with 30 years of service. He was of the Christian faith and was past president of the Green Bay chapter, Izaak Walton league and the Fort Madison Eagles. He was active in conservation for many years.
On Sept. 1, 1939, in Fort Madison, he married Mildred Britton, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Emily) Smith of Burlington and three grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a son. His parents were William A. and Emily Lake DeLong.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barr Memorial Chapel with the Rev. P.J. Budreau officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends called the afternoon on Wednesday, June 6 at - the Barr Memorial Chapel where the family met friends from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening.
A Memorial was established with the Lee County Conservation Board. Contributions were made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
