Mildred C. DeLong, 78, 3049 Hwy. 103 Fort Madison, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 1995 at West Point Care Center, West Point, following an extended illness.
She was born February 27, 1917, in Fort Madison, the daughter of George and Margaret Heuser Britton, Sr. She married Vencil N. DeLong September 1, 1939 In Fort Madison. He died June 4, 1984.
She was a life long resident of Fort Madison and was a retired W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company employee. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church, Fort Madison.
She is survived by one daughter. Mrs. Jerry (Emily) Smith, Burlington; one sister, Irene Griswold, Fort Madison; two brothers, John Britton, Davenport and Richard Britton, Fort Madison; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandsons; seven step great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Britton, Jr.
Friends called the afternoon of Sunday, June 4, at King-Lynk Funeral, where a Wake Service was held at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, at Sacred Heart Church, Fort Madison, with Rev. Timothy Sheedy officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Sacred Heart Church and contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home.
