Hazel Kay, 92, of Dunbar died May 3, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.Hazel was born in Given on April 27, 1917, and was a daughter of the late Emory and Carrie Kay.

She was a member of First Church United Methodist, now Dunbar United Methodist, in Dunbar, and was a graduate of Union District High School.Hazel entered the service upon graduation and in February 1943, graduated from WAAC Detachment, Central Signal Corps, as a general clerk in the radio division. She began her 25-year career with Union Carbide, Building 82, in 1963.

After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends.Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Carrie Kay; sister, Virginia Kay Russell; and brother, Emory Basil Kay.Surviving are her niece, Linda Kay (Sam) Cipoletti of South Charleston; nephews, Dan (Kim) Kay of Cross Lanes and Ben Kay of Sarasota, Fla.; great-nephews, Rob Kay of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tony (Stephanie) Boyd of Alexandria, Va., Patrick (Gretchen and Jonathan) Boyd of Dunbar, and Justin Kay of Cross Lanes; great-nieces, Alexa Kay of Cross Lanes and Kristy Pressly of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and cousin, John Kay of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.Friends may call one hour prior to the service.The family extends special thanks to the staff at Sweetbriar Assisted Living in Dunbar for the excellent care she was given during her residency.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Dunbar United Methodist Church, 1401 Myers Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
