Jack V. Hubbs, 86, of Warrensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.


He was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Benton County, a son of Harley and Sallie Cochran Hubbs. On Sept. 3, 1943, he was married to Vivian Ferguson, who survives of the home.


He grew up in Benton County. He served in the Air Force for 12 years. He received three bronze stars and a presidential citation for service in New Guinea and Australia. During his service, he received chef training at the Statler Hotel in New York City. He managed a staff at the officers' NCO club. With the cooking ability he learned in the service, his family looked forward to his cooking. He was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1951.


While living in the Kansas City area, he was a machinist for TWA Airlines for more than 30 years. He spent several years at Lake Waukomis. He hosted several family gatherings. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. He attended Platt Woods Methodist Church and was a member of the International Machinist Union.


Also surviving are four sons, Bill Hubbs, and his wife, Nancy, of Deerfield, Ill., Bob Hubbs, and his wife, Kathy, of Olathe, Kan., Don Hubbs, and his wife, Jennifer, of Gladstone, and Jack Hubbs, and his wife, Sue, of Springfield; a sister, Freda Ranspot, of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.


He was predeceased by two brothers, Eb Hubbs and Clayton Hubbs; and two sisters, Heida Martin and Nina Powell.


Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.


The family suggests memorial contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg or the Alzheimer Association, in care of the funeral home.
