Orval Ray McClure
1920 - 2009
Born May 30, 1920. Passed away Oct. 10, 2009 at the age of 89.
Orval was born in Dixon Township, Okla., to Oscar and Anna (Havolic) McClure. He was the sixth born of nine children. Orval grew up on a 440-acre farm in Watonga, Okla. In July 1942, he joined the service and served in Co. K 333rd Infantry, 84th Division. He served in Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge. He left the service in Nov. 1945, and lived briefly in California before moving to Kuna to farm with his father and brother.
In 1951, Orval married the love of his life. Jackie Davis. Together they had six children. Orval worked at Amalgamated Sugar for 20 years where he retired in 1989.
Orval had a strong love for horses and was actively involved with 4-H. He loved working with kids and their 4-H projects. Every Sunday Orval could be found out with his kids at field meets. He was a member of the Kuna Cave and Ten Mile Riding Clubs. If there was anything to do with horses or hounds, Orval was there. He loved all animals and it showed in everything he did. Orval will be remembered for "teaching" all the grandkids to drive the Chevette and the tractor, and for telling most people he met that he had five girls and they each had a brother. He loved to watch the look of confusion cross their faces. Orval loved his gardening and yard work when he wasn't farming or handling horses. He had the best sweet corn around. Orval was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his adoring wife Jackie, children, Marlena (Fred) Wolfkiel, Dennis (Kathy) McClure, Annie (Steve) Anderson, Peggy (Cliff) Sutton, Sheryl (Nelly) Nelson and Becky (Dan) Badam; 12 grandchildren; 22 great -grandchildren (two more on the way); sister, Dixie; brother, Leo and Jeannie (whom he considered his sister), numerous nieces, nephews and plenty of friends.
Per Orval's request there will not be a funeral service. Over the last few years Orval held dear the times when friends and family gathered to celebrate birthdays and holidays. When the weather warms up we will have a celebration of life to remember Orval and his time with us.
