Martha Temple Burriss Cook died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Sterling Heights Care Center in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born March 3, 1907, in Fayette, the daughter of LeRoy and Temple Gray Tompkins. She lived in Kansas City and Sugar Creek before coming to Clinton. She was married to Myron C. Burriss, who preceded her in death in 1983. Later she married Steve Cook, who preceded her in death in 1994. For a number of years she was a teacher in the Shawnee Mound School District. Mrs. Cook was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton and the church women's group. She is survived by two daughters, Bessie Ruth Crim, Seattle, Washington, and Bettie L. Bunch, Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Consalus Chapel, Clinton, with Rev. James Eager officiating. Pallbearers were Bob Cook, Jim Cook, W. J. Livengood, Alden Burch, Loren Burch and Gary Burch. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Warrensburg, under the direction of the Consalus Funeral Home, Clinton.
