William was born November 13, 1938 in Knoxville, TN. He attended Jackson High School in Warren, IN. He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1957 to 1960. He worked at General Motors in Marion, IN for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He attended Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed woodworking and attending flea markets and antique shops. He also brightened many lives with his Abraham Lincoln impersonations performed at Hartford City Civil War reenactment, Farmers Pike, and Billy Creek, along with area nursing homes, schools, and parties.
William is survived by his daughter, Kathy Yarnell; several grandchildren; and his extended adopted family: seven brothers, Jim, John, and Donald Jones, Tom Jones, Harold Jones, Max Jones, and Tim Jones; eight sisters, Mary Williams, Delores "Irene" Lizar, Sharon Piqune, Nancy Tudor, Judy Peden, Linda Bontrager, Margaret Fritts, and Deb Watson.
William was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Workman Coffey.
A funeral service to celebrate William's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, with Pastor Jim Ballenger officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
