Stage career began at age 7 when she played the male role of Little Lord Fauntleroy and made her Broadway debut in 1925 in a play titled "One Of The Family." The 2-time Oscar nominee was most famous on film for playing mothers and grandmothers. She played the mother of Jimmy Stewart in four films, "Of Human Hearts," "Vivacious Lady," "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington," and her best known role as 'Ma Bailey' in the 1946 classic "It's A Wonderful Life." Then, in 1971 she played Jimmy Stewart's mother again on television in an episode of "The Jimmy Stewart Show". Won an Emmy at the age of 85 in the category "Best Actress For A Single Appearance In A Drama or Comedy Series" for her role of Aunt Martha on The Waltons. (bio by: Decal)
