Jimmie Lincoln Simons, 73, of rural Marshall died at 9:12 a.m. Friday, February 27, 1998 in the VA Medical center at Danville, Ill.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 2 at Pearce Funeral Home, Marshall, with the Rev. Don Graham officiating. Burial was in Green Moss Cemetery, rural Clark County, with military rites conducted by VFW Post #5975 and Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion.
He was born May 10, 1924 at Paris, Ill., the son of James Francis and Mabel Mae (Justice) Simons.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Twigg Simons; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Roger Zinn of New Orleans, La. and Becky and Bradley Reed of Martinsville; a son, Jamie Paul Simons of Marshall; three step-children; two brothers, Donald Dean Simons and Kenneth Earl Simons both of Paris; two sisters, Hazel Jean Twigg of Oakwood, Ill.. and Evelyn Louise Twigg of Derby, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Simons was an Army veteran of WW II, a Purple Heart Recipient and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. He was in the 327th Glider Infantry. He was a member of the VFW Post #5975 of Marshall and the American Legion Post #515 of Martinsville.
