Staff Sgt Kyle Ray Warren of Manchester, New Hampshire, died July 29 at Tsagay, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked the military vehicle he was in with an improvised explosive device.
Staff Sgt. Warren was the medical sergeant of his team and was assigned to the Army's 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
KIA along with Staff Sgt. Warren was Capt_Jason_E._Holbrook. They were on reconnaissance patrol when attacked.
SSGT Warren volunteered for military service and entered the Army in October 2004 as a Special Forces trainee. After basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in May 2005 for Special Forces training. His medical training was given at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and at Joint Special Operation Medical Training Center. In 2007 he earned the coveted green Beret.
He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, the NATO Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, according to U.S. Army Special Forces Command.
He attended grammar school at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Hermosa Beach, California and graduated from Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Northern Arizona University and played for the Land Sharks Rugby Club. He moved to New Hampshire in 2003 to live with him mother and step-father.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, and his father.
Funeral services for SSGT Warren will be on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, Redondo Beach, California. Burial services will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
