Mary Sarah Ann Little was born 2 July 1832 in Henry County, Georgia to Robert Little & Verlinda Arnold and was the eldest of eight children. Her parents moved from the Carolinas into Georgia and when Sarah was fourteen years age, moved to Coosa County, Alabama. Sarah was five feet and five inches tall and was slender and well proportioned throughout her life, with hazel eyes and brown hair which she wore, in later years, in a bun on top of her head. She married James in her seventeenth year and became the mother of nine children. Sarah had a quaint southern voice, was quiet and slow to speak and was forever showing her love and kindness. Sacrifice, hardship and privation made her forgiving and mellow.
