Atreus McGary, twin brother of Annie and son Major Daniel Leonidas "Dan" McGary and his wife, Martha Jane Summers, was stillborn on 5 September 1867 in Chappell Hill, Texas. He was named for his father's cousin, Atreus "Atty" Clay. His father was a Civil War veteran, as well as owner and editor of Brenham's Southern Banner.
Little Atreus was buried with his older sister, Nettie, in the center of the family's property (near the present location of Brenham's Starlite Drive In Theater). His parents sold the land two years later; the deed stated that one square acre was reserved, being the graves of their two deceased children, plus right of way to graves.
Thank you, Melissa Craigmiles, for sponsoring Atreus's memorial!
